20-21 Mai 2016: L’IKT est une association internationale de curateurs d’art contemporain qui réunit chaque année des congrès autour du monde dans le but de croiser les connaissances et de favoriser les échanges transculturels. Cette année, outre un programme très intense de visites de lieux tous plus emblématiques ou insolites les uns que les autres du royaume belge (MiMa, La loge, Villa Empain, CAB, Centrale, Bozar, maison Grégoire, BAM, Kiosk, Smak..etc..) et de nombreuses performances, expositions ou installations (17-20 Mai 2016), l’IKT a organisé un symposium à Bruxelles le 21 Mai intitulé ‘Traveling models, beyond divides Curating transdisciplinarity’ où sont intervenusoutre Emmanuel Lambion (chairman) et moi même (résumé ci-dessous), l’artiste et curateur New-Yorkais Michael Portnoy, Léa Gauthier (prof. ISAC, ArBA-EsA), Christophe Slagmuylder (WIELS, Kunstenfestivaldesarts), Dirk Snauwaert (WIELS) et Eva Wittocx (Directrice Musée de Louvain).

TRANSDISCIPLINARITY IN ART & SCIENCE: OPENING UP THE KNOWLEDGE
Our aim is to show how the Art & Science field and the research in Art correspond to a need in our contemporary societies. We shall raise this topic by looking at the evolution of sciences and at inter- or multidisciplinary reading grids cross-pollinizing cultures. What are the singular or experimental relationships that divide or, on the contrary, unite the artistic and scientific approaches? How to open up the disciplines and the knowledge without falling into mingling or into vulgarisation? We shall see through concrete examples in neuroscience (cognitive reserve, brain plasticity) or at the border between Art & Science (cosmology, hybridation, mathematics, morphogenesis, palaeontology, performative art, mythology…), that only by adopting a common transdisciplinary framework can the contemporary Art and the scientific process be reconciled without any depreciation one to the other. It follows a plasticity of thought necessary for overcoming cleavages and for a better fluidity of language: a milestone in the era of the digital and transmedial culture we are immersed in.
